Lionel Messi is still smashing records.

Lionel Mesi was at it again last night. He made history again, scoring Barcelona's 6,000th La Liga goal in his 15th straight campaign for the Spanish side.

Barca beat Alaves 3-0 at the Nou Camp, with superb goals coming from Messi and Philippe Coutinho, but it was the goat who hit the headlines with this milestone.

Nine years ago, the maestro scored the club's 5,000th La Liga goal and here he is again, breaking records and producing jaw-dropping statistics.

It's following Argentina's poor World Cup campaign, where the South Americans were knocked out early in the group stages to France.

Messi has been billed as the world's greatest for almost ten years, with only Cristiano Ronaldo challenging him for the title. The rivalry has been the subject of heated debate: just like you're either a dog or cat person, you're a Messi or Ronaldo supporter.

We're sure that the striker will be on point this season, having scored a brace in his opening game.

"Last season was really good as we did the double but we all felt bad about how it went in the Champions League," Messi said. "We promise that this season we will do all we can to bring that beautiful trophy back to the Camp Nou."
