Manchester United manager José Mourinho is keen for the club to open negotiations with several players who are heading into the final year on their current contracts.
The Red Devils face the possibility of losing the likes of David de Gea, Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera and Chris Smalling. In the case of de Gea and Martial, though, United have the option to extend their contracts for a further year while they try and negotiate a new deal.
According to the Evening Standard, Juventus are ready to open talks with United star Juan Mata.
The former Chelsea boss is keen to hold on to the 30-year-old midfielder along with Herrera, but the clock is ticking down and a deal has not been struck with either player.
Unnamed sources close to Mata have suggested that he is not interested in making a move to the U.S. or China.
Mata made a move from Chelsea to United in 2014 and has become a fan-favourite player at the club. However, he has struggled to hold down a regular position in Mourinho's starting XI.
United are already in a difficult position with de Gea's future and the Spanish shot-stopper did little to ease those concerns amongst club supporters.
"What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction," he told Sky Sports (via the Daily Mirror).

"What matters is focusing on football.
"We have an important game against Everton and we have some big fixtures over the coming months. I think that's what matters, rather than thinking about anything else."
