Jordan Henderson was one the biggest assets for England last night, as the Three Lions won 2-1 in their opening group game against Tunisia.

The Liverpool captain was one of the focal points of England's attack and defence as Gareth Southgate's men ran out worthy winners in the Group G encounter, with Harry Kane's brace sealing the win.

But Henderson's brilliant performance might not have been clear for all to see: an understated player, the 28-year-old pulls the strings and dictates tempo - but it's unlikely you'll find his highlights reel particularly riveting.

But the stats don't lie. Just check out these beautiful numbers.

However, stats don't tell the full picture.

Sunday Times football journalist Jonathan Northcroft tweeted his version of events after the game, explaining the former Sunderland player's vocal presence was key in the Three Lions finally breaking down Tunisia and earning a win.

This was backed-up by commentator Guy Mowbray, who said that Henderson's vocal influence was also clear in Liverpool's Champions League 5-2 triumph over AS Roma in the semi-final first-leg.

Kane might be wearing the captain's armband but Henderson is not shying away from his role of being England's talisman.

England face Panama on Sunday and then face off against Belgium on Thursday. They are expected to head into the knockout round but those two tests stand in their way.
