Diego Costa Sensed What Everyone Else Didn't Before Penalty Shootout Of The Russia Clash

Diego Costa Sensed What Everyone Else Didn't Before Penalty Shootout Of The Russia Clash

Diego Costa would make a fine manager, it seems.

In a World Cup full of surprises, perhaps the biggest came last night, when Spain lost on penalties to hosts Russia.

Spain came into the tournament as one of the favourites, a team that gave us tika-taka football, a style of play now used all over the world: even in merry ol' traditional England, passing from the back has become the done-thing and the use of triangles.

It's fair to say the country has dominated the last decade of football.

But now we might have seen the last of the world-beaters, and maybe a new style of play will take over. How about the new style called Southgatism? You never know, it might catch on.

During last night's clash, the contentious and often loathed Diego Costa was caught on video seemingly unhappy with who in his side would be taking the penalties in the shootout.

Koke and Iago Aspas missed Spain's penalties, and Costa seemingly seemed to notice something wasn't quite right with them before they put the ball on the spot.

As per Spanish outlet Marca, when manager Fernando Hierro asked Koke whether he was feeling up to take a spot-kick, Costa intervened.

You can watch the video here:

This led Hierro to say to the 29-year-old, "Koke is fine."

But when his teammate missed his penalty, the former Chelsea player was caught muttering to himself: "Te lo dije", meaning "I told you so."

And as the players headed down the tunnel following their crushing defeat, a conversation ensured between Hierro and Costa.

Maybe it's time we all start listening to Costa.
