Real Madrid were recently crowned champions of Europe after beating Liverpool 3-1 in the Champions League final in Kiev, Ukraine - but rivals Barcelona have overtaken them as best club in UEFA, according to new data.

A company called Gracenote complied a list of the best teams in Europe called the Euro Club Index.

So how does it work?

Clubs are awarded points based on the outcome of games, with onus on the gulf between clubs. A victory over Juventus would count for more than a win over Derby County, for instance. (No offence, Derby supporters.)

There're also bonuses based on how well a club does, which explains why Liverpool, who finished fourth in the Premier League, are high up in 11th spot.

Barcelona's league dominance and title win see them replace Real on the number one spot.

But the biggest jumpers were Yorkshire side Huddersfield Town. The Terriers moved from way down in 232nd spot to 171st, with mention, too, to Sean Dyche's Burnley. Their impressive season, finishing 7th and earning a place in the Europa League, has them jump on the Euro Club Index from 116th to 68th. Wow.

There's also the small matter of the Euro Club Index's league table. In the system's top 100 clubs, 16 feature from La Liga, 16 from Bundesliga, 14 from the Premier League, 11 from Calcio and France's Ligue 1 and Russia's Premier League have eight apiece.

Obviously, the Euro Club Index will be contended by many football fans, mainly Real Madrid fans who have just witnessed their club win their fourth Champions League in five years, but it's important to realise that it's just a table based on a certain metric. Whether this metric is a true reflection of how good a team might be being another matter.
