Arsenal Look To Get Deals Done Early This Summer, In Negotiations For Two Bundesliga Stars

Unai Emery is wasting no time.

A new era begins at Arsenal under boss Unai Emery - and it appears he's wasting no time in getting things done, going full-throttle in the transfer market, with talks ongoing with two Bundesliga stars.

Arsene Wenger might've had his critics, but generally he was a superb boss for the Gunners.

His footballing brain remained in peak condition during the final years of his time at North London, however, he was criticised for being lethargic, for not getting deals over the line, and for being the overseer of a soft and easy culture at the North London side.

Last summer, Thomas Lemar looked set to join the Gunners, as too did Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal could only manage to get the latter over the line, with teenager Mbappe now at Paris Saint Germain, and Lemar's move to Atlético Madrid nearing completion this window.

Now this summer under Emery, it seems, the club are going all out. Sky Sports are reporting that they are in advanced negotiations with highly-rated goalkeeper Bernd Leno and havealso agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Leno could well knock Petr Cech off his perch as Arsenal's number one goalkeeper and Greece international Sokratis would be a welcome addition to the squad whose back-line is shaky.

If the deals go through, it would solidify Arsenal for next season. They'll certainly be stronger than 2017/18, where they went through a lacklustre second half of the season, not helped by an awful away record, and a semi-final defeat in the Europa League to Atletico Madrid. It means they have no Europe to enjoy next season.

The hope is that the club can start afresh under their new manager and set their sights on becoming Premier League title contenders once again - otherwise this lot will be terribly upset.
