Angel Di Maria is set to return to Old Trafford when his current side play Manchester United in the Champions League and ahead of the tie, he's opened up about his spell in England.

In 2014, Manchester United secured a major signing in Angel Di Maria. They snapped him up from Real Madrid for a massive £59.7 million, one of the most expensive transfers at the time.

But he lasted one measly season.

The Argentine winger failed to impress in the Premier League, and he's revealed there were 'complications' under Louis van Gaal's management.

"I only stayed for one year. It was not the best time of my career, or rather I was not allowed to spend my best time there," he said.

"There were complications with the coach at the time."

Fortunately for Di Maria, he was able to turn his career around by sealing a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain where he's been enjoying some of his best football.

"But thank God, I was able to come to PSG and demonstrate again who I was," he added.

It's not long till Di Maria's PSG face United.

The two teams play in the next round of the Champions League and Di Maria is aware of United's form following the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

"We still have matches before facing Manchester. They have changed with their new coach and they have not lost a match."

PSG have already played Premier League opposition this campaign in the shape of Liverpool. They lost at Anfield though beat them on their own patch.

"I think we started the year not so well in the Champions League, but we put the situation right and we finished top of the group," the 30-year-old added.

"It was complicated. Ever since the draw it was said that it would be difficult to reach the round of 16 and we were almost eliminated, but we played a big home game against Liverpool and also against Red Star Belgrade - two big, decisive matches to qualify.

"Now, we must think of ourselves and nothing but ourselves. If we do things well, everything will be fine."
