Manchester City and Liverpool will both be far from full strength for Sunday's FA Community Shield at Wembley.

England's top two teams will square off in the traditional curtain raiser for the new season missing some key players.

Sadio Mane is among the biggest names who will play no part at all having been given extended leave after Senegal's run to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made clear his intention to make use of the six-sub rule for the Community Shield as he juggles fitness for some of his leading stars.

Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Alisson all returned late for pre-season and have only played a few minutes after a summer spent on international duty.

Whether the trio feature from the start and are taken off early or they come off the bench remains to be seen.

Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, has the same problem at Manchester City and said his team on Sunday could be very different from his first-choice XI.

Sergio Aguero, Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Nicolas Otamendi and Riyad Mahrez were all on international duty this summer and returned late for pre-season.

Fernandinho and Benjamin Mendy, meanwhile, are absent for Sunday's game at Wembley.

Guardiola said: "The physical condition is not the best. We will try to play with players who played minutes in pre-season because they have rhythm and they know the situation.

"The guys who came back later maybe will have a few minutes. There are more chances of substitutions."

Man City possible line-up: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane.

Liverpool possible line-up: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Salah, Firmino.
