The Italian had a nightmare from 12 yards

Since moving to Toronto FC in 2015, Sebastian Giovinco has been able to do no wrong, hitting 63 goals in 99 appearances for The Reds. Last night, however, the Italian striker had a moment he'd much rather forget. In fact, he had the moment twice.

The former Juventus man was felled in the box during Toronto's 1-0 victory over Montreal Impact, last night and had to dust himself off to do the honours from 12 yards.

Only, the usually ever so reliable striker fluffed his spot kick, hitting the upright instead of guiding the ball into the back of the net.

Fortunately for Giovinco, the referee deemed Impact goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau to have rushed from his line too early and ordered the penalty to be taken again.

Yet Giovinco repeated the trick, and struck the post once more, having this time sent Crepeau the wrong way.

Despite Giovinco's struggles from the spot, Toronto emerged victorious in the 'Canadian Classique', with Jozy Altidore's 16th minute strike enough to earn The Reds all three points.

The win leaves Toronto just one point away from recording the greatest regular season in Major League Soccer's history. It's a point they could earn when they Atlanta United FC, next weekend.

Giovinco and co. are currently sitting on 68 points, the record LA Galaxy set in 1998, meaning that, as long as they avoid defeat in Georgia, they will become the most successful club in MLS regular season history.

Coach Greg Vanney will be hoping that Giovinco is back to his normal prolific self, if The Reds are to write their names into the MLS history books.
