WATCH: Fernando Torres Missed An Absolute Sitter, Last Night

Oh dear, Fernando

Watching Fernando Torres enjoying his football at boyhood club Atletico Madrid has been one of football's most finest feel good stories in recent years.

The Spanish striker endured heavy derision during his disastrous four year spell as a Chelsea player, following a £50m move from Liverpool in January 2011.

A loan move to AC Milan didn't see the Atletico hitman fare any better, but since sealing a return to the Vicente Calderon, the Spain international has rediscovered some of the form that once made him one of the most feared strikers on planet Earth.

However, during Atleti's La Liga clash with Real Sociedad, last night, Torres displayed a touch of the form he was hoping to have left behind at Stamford Bridge, two years ago.

A delightful Antoine Griezmann flick had sent Yannick Carrasco racing down the right wing. When the Belgian's cross evaded the entire Sociedad defence and goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, it seemed a foregone conclusion that 'El Nino' would dispatch the ball into the empty net.

Instead, Torres clumsily knocked his effort against the upright before slamming an almost as favourable rebound into the side netting.

Fortunately for Torres, Atleti would go onto win the match 1-0. Imagine facing Diego Simeone after this double miss if points had been dropped as a result.

The miss produced memories of Torres' calamity in front of goal at Old Trafford during Chelsea's 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at the beginning of the 2011/12 season, that has since been replayed countless times for the benefit of clip shows, everywhere.

Oh dear, Fernando.
