Antonio Conte will be f**king furious

Chelsea's inconsistent start to the season took another turn for the worse tonight as Antonio Conte's Premier League champions slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

The performance was a far cry from the devastating, disciplined displays that were the hallmark of the Blues' success last term, as a Stephan El Shaarawy brace and a Diego Perotti strike secured an emphatic victory for Eusebio Di Francesco's team.

And it could have been even worse for the Blues after they produced a collective piece of defending so comically bad, even Dejan Lovren must have had a chuckle, knowing that even the Premier League champions aren't immune to complete and utter self implosion.

As Edin Dzeko, Roma's goal scoring hero from the first game between the two teams at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago, raced towards the Chelsea goal, David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta took it upon themselves to conduct a chase of the Bosnian forward that wouldn't have looked out of place being accompanied by the Benny Hill music.

Fortunately for the Blues trio, the resulting chance wasn't tucked away, but what were all three of them thinking? It looked like they were taking part in the most clueless game of Follow The Leader, ever.

Steven Gerrard even described Chelsea's display tonight as one of the worst since Conte arrived at Stamford Bridge.

And the rest of the feedback of the Premier League champions' performance wasn't much better:

Antonio Conte will likely be giving his team a significant kick up the arse ahead of Sunday's visit of Manchester United to Stamford Bridge. With Chelsea already nine points behind league leaders Manchester City, victory against Jose Mourinho's team is a must. Fortunately, United's record at Stamford Bridge over the last 15 years is just as bad as the Blues' performance tonight, so Conte's men will likely be fine no matter how badly they play.
