Arsenal's Record In This Season's Away Kit Is Atrocious

Arsenal's Record In This Season's Away Kit Is Atrocious

It's a bad omen...

Sir Alex Ferguson once blamed Manchester United's grey kit for Manchester United's dreadful first-half performance against Southampton at The Dell.

United, who had come into the game having won 11 of their last 12 games, were 3-0 down to lowly Saints at half-time and Fergie ordered his players to change into a different kit for the second half.

"The players don't like the grey strip," he said after the game, which United lost 3-1.

"The players couldn't pick each other out. They said it was difficult to see their team-mates at distance when they lifted their heads. It was nothing to do with superstition."

United never wore the kit again and something tells us that for different reasons, Arsenal should take a leaf out of their book 22 years on.

That's because this season, the Gunners have won just a single game, against Belarusian side BATE Borisov, when wearing their blue away kit.

They also managed a disappointing 1-1 draw with Southampton in the strip, but other than that they've been beaten every time they've worn it - including the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth, 4-0 humbling at the hands of Liverpool and the 4-2 embarrassment to Nottingham Forest.

Last night, the trend continued following a bizarre UEFA ruling which meant Arsene Wenger's side were forced to wear their away kit at the Emirates for the Europa League round of 32 second leg against Swedish minnows Ostersunds.

It didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things as they qualified on aggregate thanks to the 3-0 away win achieved last week, but last night's shock 2-1 defeat is the latest example of the North Londoners being really shit in their smart Puma away kit.
