Barcelona Goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen Decided To Go For A Wander In Benfica Shocker

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was so far out of his net in Barcelona's defeat to Benfica.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen decided to go for a casual stroll during Barcelona's dismal 3-0 defeat to Benfica this evening.

Ronald Koeman's side were well beaten away Lisbon to make it two identical defeats from two in the Champions League so far this season.

Darwin Nunez put the Portuguese outfit ahead early on before scoring a second from the spot ten minutes after Rafa Silva doubled the lead.

It was another miserable evening for below-par Barca, who had their goalkeeper gallivanting up the pitch for no reason whatsoever.

Like we've seen his compatriot Manuel Neuer do for years, Ter Stegen operates as a sweeper keeper and he took the role a little too seriously when he charged out to try and snuff out a Benfica attack at the start of the second half.

He was in the middle of nowhere and was lucky to have not gifted another goal as the post saved the German.

It was not a convincing night from Ter Stegen, who had another sweeper keeper fail against Atletico Madrid in November of last year.

He came out to clear a long punt up the pitch but Yannick Carrasco knocked the ball past him and rolled the ball in from distance to put Diego Simeone's side ahead.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach has been recognised as one of the world's best goalkeepers over the last few years but the amount of errors in his game has seen his stock drop dramatically.
