Alejandro Garnacho proved he's the future of Manchester United with an incredible performance in their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Thursday.

Garnacho's 17th-minute strike was enough to give United victory in Spain, but they didn't manage to seal top spot in Group E.

It means Erik ten Hag's side will now play a two-legged play-off round against a team dropping down from the Champions League in February.

Despite a disappointing evening on the whole for United, Garnacho managed to shine.

The 18-year-old started out on the left wing once again after impressing in last week's 3-0 win over FC Sheriff.

Ten Hag's trust in Garnacho has grown in recent weeks after previously admitting his attitude was letting him down.

Garnacho is impressing in training and carrying that confidence into his performances. The Argentina youth international was always willing to take his full-back on, even if it did see him hauled down a few times.

His idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, who aptly turned provider for the contest's only goal. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner slipped the ball through to Garnacho, who fired past Alex Remiro with conviction.

Garnacho faded in the second half as United's shape broke down. The Red Devils failed to register a shot on target in the second half, which saw Garnacho eventually replaced by Fred.

Fans have reacted to Garnacho's performance and they think he deserves a consistent run in the first-team going forward.

One person commented: "Garnacho is already more confident than a lot of senior players."

Another said: "He's going to be something huge in the future."

A third tweeted: "This kid oozes class already."

While someone put: "We could have a baller on our hands."

United midfielder Bruno Fernandes paid tribute to Garnacho at full-time, explaining how much he's changed since pre-season.

The Portugal international told BT Sport: "He was good but he knows we expect at lot from him. He's still really young. He's doing really well.

"At the beginning of the season, not at his best, in the tour he didn't have the best attitude that he should have and that's why he didn't get his chances until now.

"Now he's getting chances because he's training better, he's having a better attitude and he deserves his chances."

United return to action against Aston Villa on Sunday.
