​'Three Lions' Is Back To Number One Because It's Coming Home

It's finally an exciting time to be an England fan, after the team beat Sweden yesterday to reach their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years.

Emotions have arguably never been higher - and how do England fans deal with feeling all excited, chuffed to bits and nervous AF in equal measure? Well, they sing their bloody hearts out, that's how.

That's become very apparent by the fact you can't walk two metres down the street without someone spontaneously breaking into a passionate sing-song with strangers. Sometimes it'll be an Oasis classic like 'Wonderwall', but the one that's being belted from everyone's lips right now is, of course, 'Three Lions' by Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds - the Britpop classic originally released in 1996 ahead of the European Championships, which were held in England.

I mean, as I type, there's someone, somewhere currently stood on a table with their arms in the air, screaming 'NEEEEVER STOPPED ME DREAMING!' - Strongbow Dark Fruits spilling all over the gaff, but it's okay because it's coming home.

The football anthem's been doing the rounds again as an unofficial anthem for this year's World Cup, and now it's proved so popular that it's only gone and topped the Official Vodaphone Big Top 40, having climbed 32 places to the coveted top spot following England's 2-0 win against Sweden.

Marvin Humes, presenter of The Official Vodafone Big Top 40, said: "What an incredible day! It's only right that 'Three Lions' is number one on the chart. Our boys in Russia are doing us so proud.

"The nation has come together and hopefully this is only the beginning of the celebrations!"

The song is also currently at number 24 over on the BBC Radio 1 charts, but we're guessing it might clamber up even further if England come out victorious on Wednesday - and, dare we say, Sunday.

And while the song's been busy bringing the nation together (we've all hugged a group of strangers in the street and sung in unison this week, let's face it), it seems it's also reunited Baddiel and Skinner.

Watching a game together earlier in the tournament, they tweeted a mandatory selfie, captioning it: "It's just about still coming home."

Ian Broudie, the Scouse lead singer of The Lightning Seeds, also chimed in, tweeting: "It's Still Coming!!!" as a retweet of the original Baddiel and Skinner post.

I guess that makes it official then? If those guys are saying it... it really must be coming home.
