Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has been working on getting himself in unreal shape for new The Fast and the Furious spin-off and it looks like all his hard-work has paid off.

Taking to Instagram, the actor shared a photo showing off his recent efforts to get hench for new movie Hobbs and Shaw.

Alongside the photo, he wrote: "Dialled in and hit the mark. 260lbs of attitude and classy cuss words. After 18 weeks of disciplined diet and intense training, here's where I landed my carcass for shooting my Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw.

"Always room for improvements, but not too bad for a scarred up surgically repaired Brahma Bull whose injuries always tell the story."

Before going on to thank his strength and conditioning coach Dave Rienzi for helping whip him into shape, as well as his 'inner circle' and his fans for their ongoing support.

Earlier this month, he shared a sneak preview of the new movie, which also stars Jason Statham.

Johnson will be reprising his role of LukeHobbs, a former agent of the Diplomatic Security Service and Statham will play Deckard Shaw - the brother of The Fast and the Furious villain Owen Shaw (played by Luke Evans).

Idris Elba has also reportedly joined the cast and will play a villain.

Director David Leitch had some good news for fans of the original movies, telling Digital Spy: "There's obviously some of the DNA of the Fast universe.

"But what we really want to do is create something fresh and different for these characters, and dive into their world.

"Hobbs and Shaw come from the agent-and-spy world. It's obviously about their banter and their relationship, but it's more about expanding their world and their connections and creating a family in a slightly different universe. It's going to be fun."

And although the movie hasn't even been filmed yet, there's already plans to spawn a whole franchise.

"I think it's going to be a little bit more grounded because it's the beginning," he added.

"It's an origin story, in a sense. It's not an origin story, but we're starting a franchise.

"So, we want it to be a little bit more grounded, a little bit more character-centric. We're going to set up the stakes for these guys and their relationship, but we're also going to have some great set pieces and some action that you'd expect from that type of franchise.

"I think you have to do both," he continued. "I think long term. Obviously being true to the script and making the best movie, you do want to seed elements that allow you to expand the universe and have enough characters to move forward.

"If you look at the first Fast, they had the core group that allowed them to be able to have this ensemble that moved forward for nine movies. We have to set up the world so it has the potential to grow."
