The Facts Surrounding Adel Taarabt's Time At Benfica Are Shocking

What a waste

It feels like Adel Taarabt has been around so long that he should be around 32 by now but the former Spurs man is still only 27. Despite that it feels very much like he's wasted his career up to now

Taarabt came on the scene as a youngster at Tottenham and big things were expected of him. In his three years there though he spent two on loan and a lack of work ethic always seemed to slow his progress.

After a few years at QPR that combined some brilliant moments with some mostly lacklustre performances the Moroccan first got himself a loan move to Fulham and then, somehow, to AC Milan.

Four goals in 14 games for Milan might be the best period of his career but he returned to QPR to be more frustrating than previously.

Since 2015 Taarabt had been at Benfica before securing a move to Serie A side Genoa this week. However even that's surprising when you look at his dreadful record for the Portuguese side:

Earning three million Euros for no first team games is pretty impressive going for the former Lens youth player.

Genoa currently sit in 12th in Serie A and have only scored 22 goals this season so could do with getting the good Taarabt, if he exists.

It might not be the only player that Benfica let go in the January transfer window as Manchester United are still being linked with a move for Victor Lindelof.

Will Taarabt ever make as much of his career as he should have?
