Has there been many fights with as much scrutiny over the build up as Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor? And yet Mayweather managed to hide one surprising fact about his personal preparation for the fight.

The whole world and his wife was interested in the fight between one of the modern greats of boxing and a man who'd never stepped foot inside a professional boxing ring before, such is the interest in both Mayweather and McGregor.

Despite being 'retired' for nearly two years the unbeaten Mayweather has remained the biggest name in boxing, stopping on 49 undefeated made him bigger news than being on 50 because we were all waiting to see when he'd come out of retirement.

McGregor has helped make UFC into a more mainstream sport and has become the poster child for the sport, certainly following the downfall of Ronda Rousey who previously was the name who transcended the sport.

The build up was everyone's lips with videos of the pair training and the video of McGregor sparring with Paulie Malignaggi going utterly viral. However after the fight Mayweather revealed, at his press conference via SB Nation, that he hadn't sparred for a month before the fight:

"I didn't box for the last month, I didn't do no sparring. There's no excuses, he came out here and fought a hell of a fight. It was an injury, of course. Not an injury like that, but I wanted my hands to be a hundred-percent for the fight."

The 40 year-old then added that he knew he could have had issues if he'd chosen to spar, adding, "You know, I didn't want... my hands are real brittle. Everybody knows that. I wanted my hands to be real solid when I came out here.

"So when I'm shooting hard shots, I'm able to break the guy down. Whereas if I were to box with a serious hand injury I wouldn't be able to punch as hard."

He may not have sparred for a month but that didn't stop Mayweather looking very good in his 10th round stoppage of McGregor, his first inside the distance since 2011, and after an illustrious career he's earnt his retirement, if he stays retired this time...
