Conor McGregor could take another swing at boxing to settle an old score. This time instead of stepping inside the ring to face Floyd Mayweather it could be his former sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi.
When Conor McGregor decided to leave the octagon for a bit to take on Floyd Mayweather in a boxing fight the Irishman said he had conquered his sport and he was going to conquer Floyd's too.
Of course history shows us that it wasn't the case but McGregor certainly fared better in his first taste of boxing than Tenshin Nasukawa did, with the Japanese kickboxer not even lasting a round against Mayweather recently.
The Notorious finally returned to UFC to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov last year but he was unsuccessful in the highly controversial title fight, although the controversy on the night came after he'd been tapped out by the Russian.
Now the 30 year old could return to boxing to take on his biggest foe in the sport, Paulie Malignaggi. The two sparred as McGregor prepared for 'Money' Mayweather but after the American left camp images appeared of Malignaggi being floored by McGregor and then video surfaced too.
It started a war of words across social media and now there's reports that the two have started conversations over a possible fight.
Many criticised Malignaggi for his lack of professionalism around the Mayweather fight. After the sparring situation occurred the former WBA welterweight champion remained on the commentary team for the fight and took verbal shots at his rival whenever possible.
He continued to have a go at McGregor after the MMA stars loss to Nurmagomedov last year with a series of tweets following the fight.
Any fight between the pair wouldn't have the star power that McGregor's first foray into boxing had but it certainly would have history and a real grudge behind it.
It remains to be seen how good Malignaggi would be in the ring, nearly two years after he retired.
Will this fight happen?
