A month shy of his 52nd birthday (!!) Bernard Hopkins was brutally knocked out in his final fight and was sent tumbling out of the ring courtesy of Joe Smith Jr.

Hopkins was tasked with taking on fellow American Smith Jr. in his final fight before finally calling it a day. During a 28-year professional career, Hopkins had never been stopped until last night.

The 51-year-old ultimately showed his age as the younger, fresher fighter put a beating on the ex-world champion eventually earning a dramatic finish.

With 53 seconds remaining of round 8, Smith Jr. landed a series of punches with Hopkins against the rope as the Philly-fighter was literally knocked out of the ring.

So, Hopkins ends his career by getting KO'ed out of the ring. Combat sports can be a cruel world and this just moment perfectly demonstrates that.

'The Alien' ends with an impressive record; 55 wins (32 KO's) - eight defeats - two draws - having held multiple world titles at both middleweight and light-heavyweight.

Enjoy retirement, Bernard.
