Scott Quigg may have f*cked up on the scales, but he certainly fought his bollocks off against Oscar Valdez.

The 29-year-old lost the opportunity to claim world honours after turning up 2-lbs over the weight limit.

While there was confusion on the morning of the fight, Valdez vs. Quigg went ahead. And the pair featherweights produced a bloody, gutsy, 12-round battle with the Mexican holding onto his WBO title.

He got the judges nod who scored the bout 117-111, 117-111, and 118-110.

The epic back-and-forth fight resulted in gnarly injuries for both combatants.

Valdez sustained a reported broken jaw (!) while Quigg broke a few of his teeth and suffered a nasty broken nose (!!).

And images of Quigg's facial injury have surfaced, and it's not pleasant.

Ouch.

Promoter Eddie Hearn reacted to his fighters valiant effort in the States.

Following the world title contest, Quigg says there are no excuses while admitting his mistake at the weigh-in.

"I'm gutted. It was a great fight and I was in it all the way along, but there are no excuses," he said.

Quigg added: "I still take full responsibility. I've had a bit of stick back home saying I'm unprofessional, but I'm not.

"There were fans who had paid for flights to come over for the fight and I didn't want to let them down, I wanted to put on a show.

Meanwhile, Valdez remains unbeaten, extending his perfect record to 24-0.

Quigg, on the other hand, endures his second professional loss snapping a three-fight win streak in the process.

Brave battle, Scott. Fair play, lad.
