Before the world heavyweight title is contended between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, minimumweight challenger Mark Anthony Barriga is involved in a world title contest.

And ahead of fight night, Fury met Barriga and the picture captured is absolute gold.

This weekend, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Fury faces Wilder for the WBC world heavyweight title and Barriga fights for the vacant IBF minimumweight world title.

And the pair caught up prior to their respective bouts.

Barriga, who stands at 5-foot-2 and 105 pounds, has proven his doubters wrong and is on the brink of becoming a world champion.

"My classmates, my neighbours, they always said 'you're too small, why you want to become a boxer? You won't win because you're small,'" Barriga said.

"I always put in my mind that the people who said that, someday I will become famous, and you'll know me in my sport. Someday I'll become a good boxer. You'll see me in the TV."

Fury, meanwhile, is back in peak physical condition ahead of fighting for world honours.

The 30-year-old endured a battle against mental illness and ballooned up in weight but he's since turned around his life, transforming his body in remarkable fashion.

Another thing he's lost is his beard. Fury was sporting a thick set of facial hair yet he's shaved it all off and he feels 'fantastic'.

"I shaved it clean last night. It feels fantastic, like I've got a tiny face. Pretty again," he said. "New look. New dawn. New hour. New day."

Will Fury claim a world title, again?
