Conor McGregor obtained a boxing license in the state of California stoking the flames of a Floyd Mayweather mega-fight but is it a step towards a lucrative boxing bout or just a bargaining chip against UFC?
Well, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, shot down the idea while claiming it a "con job". Speaking to ESPN;
"It's all a game. It's all a calculated effort to gain more fans. He got a boxing license. Congratulations to him. Conor McGregor can say anything he wants to but he has a boss and his name is Dana White. He is under contract to the UFC and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match he can't because his bosses wouldn't allow that to happen."

Mayweather's trusted right-hand man is right you know. A contract with the Zuffa organisation strictly forbids any other form of combat outside of the Octagon.
But it hasn't stopped the 'potential' fight from being discussed. Needless to say, Ellerbe doesn't think the UFC lightweight champion has a chance. "He would get his ass beat from pillar to post."
Continuing to add; "He's done a masterful con job to try to trick people that he could actually pull this off. It's another creative way to create more interest."

As well as bringing up the Irishman's first UFC defeat back at UFC 196 to Nate Diaz; "Isn't this the same guy who tapped out three fights ago?"
Before finishing by defiantly saying; "If they want to get him killed put him in there in a boxing match."
