Eddie Hearn breaks silence on Ryan Garcia missing weight for Devin Haney fight

Eddie Hearn breaks silence on Ryan Garcia missing weight for Devin Haney fight

Ryan Garcia missed the required weight ahead of his bout against Devin Haney.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has spoken about Ryan Garcia missing weight ahead of his bout with Devin Haney.

On Friday, Garcia vs Haney was thrown into chaos after Garcia weighed in at 143 lbs, which is 3.1 lbs over the limit.

However, a statement from Golden Boy Boxing confirmed the fight will go ahead, it read: “Ryan has weighed in over his contractual weight.

“He will honor the handshake made at the final press conference yesterday. We have a fight.”

Now, Hearn has spoken about the matter.

He said to Fight Hub TV: “Disappointing. It is what it is. Devin is defending his title, I don't think it makes a huge amount of difference. It might tell you a little bit more about Ryan's preparation. He's going to be dangerous.

‘They're both going to rehydrate to a big number, Devin does anyway. So Ryan will. He's going to be punching hard in there tomorrow night. It's a dangerous fight, weight changes nothing in that respect.”

Asked if he was told why Garcia missed weight, Hearn responded: "No. He missed weight because he couldn't make weight."

Hearn also confirmed the fight was never in any danger of being cancelled. "A deal was made," he said. "They are ready to fight. In this situation, a deal would be made and that's it.

"He's going to be heavier, all the assets that he has, makes him dangerous in this fight. The fact he's clearly not quite himself could make him even more dangerous.

"We'll see tomorrow."

The fight will be shown live on DAZN PPV in the UK, as well as 200 other countries, and you can purchase the event for £19.99. You can also subscribe to DAZN for £9.99-per-month, which will commit you to an annual subscription.

A more flexible monthly option is priced at £19.99, which allows you to cancel at any time. However, the cheapest way to subscribe is by paying for the annual membership upfront - which is £99.

The fight can be streamed on your mobile or tablet device and is also on DAZN 1 (Sky channel 429).
