Wayne Rooney tipped to fight Jake Paul at Old Trafford as Eddie Hearn reveals texts from Man Utd legend

Wayne Rooney tipped to fight Jake Paul at Old Trafford as Eddie Hearn reveals texts from Man Utd legend

Eddie Hearn has teased a fight between Wayne Rooney and Jake Paul.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has teased a blockbuster Old Trafford showdown between Wayne Rooney and Jake Paul.

Hearn joined Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott on the latest episode of The Overlap's Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

The Matchroom chief spoke about YouTube boxing, having been involved in KSI vs Logan Paul back in November 2019. It comes after Misfits Boxing put on a pay-per-view extravaganza in Manchester last weekend.

Jake wasn't on the card, but he was in attendance as he walked out his brother Logan for his grudge match against Dillon Danis, which ended in disqualification.

'The Problem Child' will return to action on December 15 against an unnamed opponent following his victory over former UFC superstar Nate Diaz.

His foe won't be former Manchester United and England legend Rooney, but he could be in the future. That's according to Hearn, who talked up a monstrous clash between the social media influencer and the Birmingham City manager.

Hearn revealed Rooney would text him after every major YouTube boxing event. Check it out below.

Hearn said: "After every big fight, especially with a YouTuber, sometimes Rooney will fire me a message and go: 'listen...'"

Neville ruthlessly chipped in: "Did you not see him against Phil Bardsley?!"

Hearn replied: "That was in the living room after eight bottles of red."

The 44-year-old continued by referencing Rooney's amateur boxing pedigree, adding: "Rooney training - against Jake Paul at Old Trafford..."

Jake is 7-1 in his professional boxing career, having beaten the likes Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.

He lost to Tommy Fury earlier this year as he beat Diaz to return to the win column.

Will the 26-year-old meet Rooney in the ring? Watch this space.
