It's Pro Bowl weekend which means we're just one week away from Super Bowl LI where the New England Patriots will take on the Atlanta Falcons in Texas. So to get you in the mood for the greatest show on earth we've picked our 10 favourite American football films.

The Super Bowl is synonymous with film but usually the short kind as the adverts played during half-time are almost as infamous as the game and the show itself.

However the sport also has a rich history of feature length films. Here's our list of the top 10 best ones:

1. Remember the Titans- Based on a true story, Denzel Washington portrays the coach of a school team from recently racially integrated school. They have to deal with racism on and off the field whilst trying to win the championship too.

2. Rudy- Desperate to play for college football team Notre Dame Rudy Ruettiger fights dyslexia and a poor, working class background, to battle his way into college and on to the team.

3. Friday Night Lights- In a Texas town hit hard by financial down turn the Permian High Panthers matches on a Friday night are the only thing to people going. The pre cursor to the tv show of the same name.

4. We Are Marshall- Based on a true story, the film follows the story of aftermath of a 1970 tragic plane crash that killed 37 football players on the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team and a whole host of support staff.

5. Draft Day- Ever wanted to know how draft day works in the NFL? Then this film might not tell you anything real but it does a great job of dramatising the whole thing with Kevin Costner playing the Cleveland Browns GM.

6. Concussion- A very 'in' topic in all sports at the moment, especially American football. Doctor Bennet Omalu goes on a mission to raise awareness of the dangers of head trauma and concussion in the sport.

7. The Waterboy- Another film based on a true story (joke). The Waterboy is the ultimate underdog story, socially inept Bobby Boucher becomes the star of the show for his college team and they all rally around him. Remember though, "water sucks, it really really sucks."

8. Any Given Sunday- Al Pacino's inspirational speech in this film is legendary enough to get it on any list of the best sports films, never mind American Football specific. Pacino plays under pressure coach Tony D'Amato who has to deal with an arse of an owner and a growing injury list.

9. The Blind Side- Homeless kid Michael Oher is taken in as legal guardians by the Tuohy. He changes their life and they change his as he becomes a good student and an excellent football player. A real feel good film.

10. The Longest Yard- Don't worry Adam Sandler hasn't made it onto our list twice. This one is the original Burt Reynolds classic from 1974. An arrested former NFL players ends up playing for the prison team against the guards with funny consequences.
